Two Macau residents have fallen victim to online investment scams involving cryptocurrency and stock securities. A local woman was deceived into transferring funds to a specified account for cryptocurrency investments, making eight transactions since mid-September. Although the platform initially showed a profit of 7.9 million yuan, she was asked to pay a 250,000 yuan 'exchange rate difference' before withdrawal, after which she lost contact with the platform, resulting in a total loss of 1.18 million yuan.
In a separate incident, an elderly man from Macau was lured into a stock investment scam, depositing 110,000 HKD as instructed. He initially managed to withdraw 40,000 HKD as 'profits', but was later asked to pay additional fees and a deposit, ultimately losing 80,000 HKD when he could not withdraw further funds.
