Logan Paul's Pikachu Illustrator card has set a new record as the most expensive trading card ever sold at auction, fetching $16.49 million. The card, considered the "Holy Grail" of Pokémon collectibles, was sold by Goldin Auctions on February 16. It includes a 24% buyer's premium, surpassing the previous record in the sports card category. Originally purchased by Paul for $5.275 million in 2021, the card is the only known PSA 10 Gem Mint specimen, making it highly coveted.
The card was awarded in a 1998 Pokémon illustration contest by CoroCoro Comic and is one of only 39-41 ever issued. Hand-drawn by Pikachu's original designer, Atsuko Nishida, it features the exclusive "Illustrator" designation. The auction saw 97 bids over 41 days, with intense competition in the final phase. The buyer, AJ Scaramucci, founder of Solari Capital, received the card from Paul, who also live-streamed the event.
