A Liquid Network “white hat” hacker has communicated with Blockstream through on-chain OP_RETURN messages and PGP-encrypted text, stating that most of the BTC will be returned after a network vulnerability is fixed. Blockstream initiated contact, after which the hacker asked whether returning most funds to a Blockstream address was acceptable. The hacker then demanded that the vulnerability be fixed first and that all nodes complete the patch upgrade before the funds are returned safely. The hacker also sent encrypted technical information to Blockstream via PGP that only its team can read. Communication between the two sides remains ongoing.
