Lightning Labs has unveiled an open-source toolkit enabling AI agents to autonomously conduct Bitcoin transactions via the Lightning Network. Released on February 15, the toolkit allows AI to send and receive payments without human intervention, accounts, or API keys, utilizing the L402 protocol based on the HTTP 402 "Payment Required" standard. This innovation facilitates AI agents in processing Lightning Network invoices and accessing services post-payment through digital credentials. The toolkit also features "lnget," a tool for automated content access, and supports AI in running Lightning nodes, managing permissions, and executing transactions with built-in spending limits and remote signature protection.
