LayerZero and 21X completed a one-month pilot running a central limit order book entirely on-chain, achieving 10,000 order matches per second — approximately 45 times higher than institutional-grade EVM baselines. The test was conducted on a private permissioned instance of the Zero blockchain with no off-chain matching components.
The pilot focused on tokenized US equities, with both matching and settlement executed within the same transaction. 21X operates as a licensed trading and settlement venue under the EU DLT pilot regime. LayerZero previously announced the Zero chain in partnership with Citadel Securities, DTCC, ARK Invest, and Intercontinental Exchange.
