Swedish payment giant Klarna has applied for a U.S. banking license to establish "Klarna Bank USA" in Utah. This move, reported by CNBC, aims to allow Klarna to offer loans, deposits, and other financial services through its own FDIC-insured banking system.
Klarna's expansion into the U.S. banking sector follows its launch of the stablecoin KlarnaUSD last year. The company is also working with Privy, a wallet infrastructure platform under Stripe, to develop a crypto wallet targeting mainstream users.
