Karma3 Labs, the developer behind the decentralized reputation protocol OpenRank, has announced its closure after three and a half years of operation. Founder Sahil Dewan stated that the company will cease development and return remaining capital to investors. All code, protocols, documentation, and learning materials will be open-sourced, with the GitHub repository archived and made permanently public.
OpenRank successfully generated reputation scores for over 10 million on-chain users and facilitated more than $50 million in incentive distribution, supporting over 50 integrations. Despite these achievements, the team was unable to establish a scalable business model. Dewan emphasized that while the right thesis is crucial, it does not automatically translate into a scalable business. He remains optimistic about the need for better reputation and trust systems in open networks, viewing OpenRank as an attempt towards this future.
