Kalshi has partnered with The Weather Company to provide data verification and quality control for its weather contracts, as the prediction market platform moves to strengthen confidence in contract settlement data. The agreement follows suspected tampering involving data from a weather station at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, underscoring the sector’s dependence on official measurement sources. Kalshi said trading volume in its weather and climate contracts has risen 500% year to date, with annualized volume projected to reach $1.1 billion. The company said farmers are using the platform to hedge losses tied to heat waves, while small businesses view the contracts as easier to use than traditional derivatives and insurance products.
