The IRS plans to launch a reformed tax voluntary disclosure program (VDP) by the end of November, according to Jarod Koopman, head of the agency's criminal investigation division. The updated program aims to cut case processing time to a maximum of 120 days after submission of complete materials, reduce penalties compared to the current system, and potentially allow installment payment options.
Koopman confirmed that the IRS will not create a separate voluntary disclosure procedure for digital assets such as cryptocurrencies. Instead, crypto-related income will be treated identically to other taxable income sources and processed through the general VDP framework.
