Iran has ascended to the position of the world's fourth-largest cryptocurrency mining hub, driven by significant electricity subsidies. However, the country is grappling with rampant illegal mining activities. Akbar Hasan Beklou, CEO of the Tehran Provincial Electricity Distribution Company, highlighted that over 95% of Iran's 427,000 active mining rigs are unauthorized. These operations consume more than 1400 megawatts of electricity, exerting substantial pressure on the national power grid and threatening the stability of the power supply.
