IonQ announced its Superion 256 quantum computer will be the first system deployed at Nvidia's quantum research center, functioning as a dedicated coprocessor alongside GPU clusters rather than operating as a standalone device. Through Nvidia's CUDA-Q software, quantum computing tasks will be assigned to Superion 256 while Nvidia GB200 GPUs simultaneously handle large-scale classical computing and AI workloads.
The deployment represents a hybrid computing model that directly integrates quantum hardware with existing supercomputing infrastructure. IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi described the collaboration as "an exciting moment in computing and in the history of computing," advancing his stated goal of positioning IonQ as the Nvidia of quantum computing.
