Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram, has transitioned from his role as Chief Product Officer at Anthropic to co-lead the company's experimental team, Labs, alongside Ben Mann. This move, initiated in January, aims to incubate new product capabilities from the Claude model. Labs operates like a startup within Anthropic, focusing on rapid iteration cycles called "Bolts," which replace traditional sprint cycles. The team, composed of entrepreneurs, seeks to develop the next "Claude Code," having already produced several core products. Anthropic has confirmed that innovations such as Claude Code, MCP, Skills, Claude in Chrome, and Cowork originated from Labs' experiments. Krieger's previous work on long-horizon agents has informed the development of Claude Managed Agents. Additionally, Anthropic has secured a deal with SpaceX to access the Colossus 1 data center, enhancing its computing power with over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs. This agreement supports the scaling of new product forms identified by Labs.
