Indian authorities have seized assets worth approximately 41.9 billion rupees ($465 million) in a major cryptocurrency-related case under anti-money laundering laws. The Indian Enforcement Agency declared one individual an economic fugitive in connection with the case. Additionally, the Central Board of Direct Taxes uncovered 8.8882 billion rupees ($100 million) in undeclared income from virtual digital asset transactions.
Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, informed the Lok Sabha that notices were issued to 44,057 taxpayers who failed to report virtual digital asset transactions in their tax returns. The Enforcement Department has arrested 29 individuals and filed 22 indictments related to these investigations. Despite the lack of regulation for crypto assets in India, the government is enhancing its capacity to monitor and investigate virtual digital asset transactions.
