India has resumed importing Iranian crude oil for the first time since May 2019, as supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz impact the country amid the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that Indian refiners have secured their crude oil needs, including supplies from Iran, following a temporary lift of U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil.
India, the world's third-largest oil importer, has also procured 44,000 tons of Iranian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which arrived at the port of Mangalore. The ministry emphasized that Indian companies can source crude from over 40 countries, ensuring flexibility in meeting the nation's energy requirements.
