India and the European Union have concluded a landmark free trade agreement, ending nearly two decades of intermittent negotiations. The agreement aims to further open India's vast market to the EU's 27 member countries. Details of the agreement are set to be announced by Indian Prime Minister Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the upcoming India-EU summit in New Delhi. Bilateral trade between India and the EU was approximately $136.5 billion in the 2025 fiscal year. The agreement is expected to be formally signed after a 5-6 month legal review and could be implemented within a year.
