Rui-Siang Lin, the creator of the Incognito Market, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for his role in facilitating $105 million in drug sales via cryptocurrencies. Lin, who operated the dark web platform from October 2020 until its shutdown in March 2024, pleaded guilty to charges including narcotics distribution and money laundering. The platform allowed users to purchase illicit drugs using digital currencies, which were then laundered through the blockchain. Law enforcement traced Lin's activities through blockchain forensics, linking his wallet transactions to a crypto exchange account registered in his name. Lin, known by the alias "Pharoah," attempted to extort users after the platform's closure, threatening to expose their identities. His arrest at JFK Airport in May 2024 marked the culmination of a multi-year investigation. The case highlights the increasing use of blockchain analytics in dismantling online drug markets and underscores the legal risks for operators of such platforms.
