The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) has reported that illegal gold mined in the Amazon region is increasingly being traded using USDT in Venezuela. Over the past two years, Venezuela has emerged as a significant destination for this illicit gold, with some of it originating from Guyana and settled locally in USDT. The Venezuelan gold industry generated approximately $2.2 billion in revenue last year. Tether, the company behind USDT, stated that it has assisted global law enforcement agencies in freezing about $4.3 billion in assets linked to illegal activities.
