A wallet generation vulnerability known as 'Ill Bloom' continues to pose a significant threat to cryptocurrency accounts, according to Coinspect Security. The flaw, which has been exploited since 2018, allows attackers to control affected wallets and steal funds across multiple blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, and Solana. As of May 27, attackers have drained approximately $3 million from hundreds of accounts, with an additional $2 million stolen in recent hours.
Coinspect has developed a tool to identify compromised addresses and is urging wallet providers to implement a weak mnemonic detection feature. SlowMist's Chief Information Security Officer, 23pds, emphasized the ongoing risk of weak randomness in wallet generation and advised users to verify their mnemonic phrases. Thousands of accounts remain vulnerable, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced security measures.
