Hyperliquid co-founder Jeff Yan stated at Korea Blockchain Week that self-custody and transparency, rather than 24-hour trading, represent the true competitive advantage of on-chain finance. Yan noted that traditional exchanges are increasingly extending their own trading hours, making round-the-clock access less of a differentiator for decentralized platforms. Yan emphasized that self-custody becomes critical when intermediaries or custodians face operational issues, while on-chain transparency provides structural benefits unavailable in traditional markets. He acknowledged that continuous trading retains value for stocks, commodities, and pre-listing assets lacking quotes during traditional market closures, and expressed optimism about on-chain markets enabling global price discovery for private assets.
