Hut 8 Mining Corp. (HUT) surged up to 14% following the announcement of a $9.8 billion, 15-year lease for the second phase of its Beacon Point data center campus in Texas. This agreement, with the same investment-grade tenant as the first phase, fully commercializes the 1-gigawatt campus. Hut 8 will add 352 megawatts of AI computing capacity using Nvidia's architecture, increasing the tenant's total contracted capacity to 704 MW and raising the campus' base contract value to $19.6 billion. The announcement positively impacted the high-performance compute sector, with IREN climbing 15%, Cipher Mining (CIFR) gaining 11%, and TeraWulf (WULF) rising 6.4% in early trading. The CoinShares Bitcoin Miners ETF (WGMI) also advanced 9.3%. This surge follows recent investor concerns over the sustainability of spending in AI infrastructure, which had cooled sentiment after Chinese firms released less power-intensive AI models and Meta Platforms (META) considered entering the cloud AI computing market.
