Silicon Valley startup Human Archive has raised $8.2 million to develop training data for robots using real-world service industry tasks in India. The funding round, led by Wing Venture Capital and NVP Capital, includes contributions from investors linked to Y Combinator, OpenAI, Nvidia, Google, and Meta. The company has deployed over 1,000 head-mounted devices to capture first-person perspectives in settings like housekeeping and food service, aiming to address the scarcity of high-quality training data for robotics. Human Archive is advancing beyond video capture by integrating haptic gloves, motion capture suits, and wrist-mounted cameras to record movement, force, and RGB-D data. This approach aims to enhance the value of training data by combining visual, tactile, and depth information. Despite privacy concerns and scrutiny from India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the company is expanding into Southeast Asia and the U.S., offering consumers discounts in exchange for data collection consent.
