Huawei has proposed building an AI data center for the Egyptian government within 12 months, offering to export 1,408 Ascend 950 series chips for a training cloud platform and another 600 Ascend 950 or 910B chips for two inference clusters, Bloomberg reported. The U.S. State Department has separately approached Nvidia, AMD, and Microsoft to form a competing U.S. consortium for the same project. The tender could become a direct test of Chinese and U.S. AI infrastructure competition in a government-backed overseas project, while highlighting demand for Huawei’s Ascend accelerators and Egypt’s choice between the two ecosystems.
