A report from the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) warns that 6.51 million Bitcoin, valued at $188 billion, could be compromised by quantum computers within five years. The report identifies 1.72 million BTC in early Pay-to-Public-Key (P2PK) addresses as particularly vulnerable, including an estimated 1.1 million BTC linked to Satoshi Nakamoto. The Presidio Bitcoin Quantum Summit in July 2025 indicated that quantum computers capable of breaking Bitcoin's encryption might emerge within 5-10 years. Despite the looming threat, experts have not reached a consensus on securing these funds, with quantum-resistant proposals like SPHINCS+ and BIP360 lacking unified support.
