Hong Kong is considering using central bank digital currency (CBDC) for the subscription of its third batch of tokenized bonds. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has issued bonds worth approximately HK$386 billion since 2019 through its "Government Sustainable Bond Program" and "Infrastructure Bond Program." Following the successful issuance of two batches of tokenized green bonds in February 2023 and February 2024, valued at US$100 million and US$750 million respectively, the third batch aims to tokenize both the asset and capital sides. The mature development of CBDC in Hong Kong makes it a potential candidate for facilitating the capital side of these tokenized bonds.
