Ashley Alder, Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong, announced a significant increase in trading activity among the region's licensed virtual asset trading platforms. In the first quarter of 2026, these platforms experienced a nearly threefold increase in trading volume compared to the same period last year, surpassing HK$640 billion in 2025. Additionally, brokerage firms involved in virtual asset businesses reported an over 80% year-on-year growth in commission income for the previous year.
