Eric Yip, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), emphasized the importance of flexible and iterative regulatory approaches at the Finternet 2025 Asia Digital Finance Summit on November 4. Yip warned against the pursuit of perfection in regulation, suggesting that it could lead to errors. Instead, he advocated for continuous adaptation and updates through public consultations and market dialogues. Yip highlighted that Hong Kong has developed a comprehensive crypto regulatory framework, focusing on combating unlicensed activities. He acknowledged the market's desire for both principled regulation and clear rules, noting that Hong Kong is evolving into a higher-quality market. The policy direction, he suggested, should gradually shift towards principle-based regulation.
