Hong Kong police have uncovered a cryptocurrency investment scam involving a woman in her fifties who was deceived on Instagram. The victim was approached by a scammer posing as a "crypto investment expert" who built a relationship with her before persuading her to invest in a supposedly "guaranteed profit" crypto scheme. She initially paid approximately HKD 40,000 as an account opening fee and subsequently converted cash into Tether in seven transactions, transferring it to the scammer's wallet. The total loss amounted to over HKD 2 million before the scammer disappeared. Authorities are warning the public to be cautious of romance scams disguised as crypto investments.
