The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced that the Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU) will launch a new service by the end of this year, enabling 24-hour real-time on-chain settlement. The upgrade is designed to support the e-HKD and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) as digital finance rapidly expands alongside the region's mature equity, forex, and bond markets. The HKMA also stated it will explore accepting tokenized deposits and regulated stablecoins for settlement on the platform. This initiative aims to integrate emerging digital assets into Hong Kong's established financial infrastructure, enhancing connectivity between traditional debt instruments and blockchain-based payment systems.
