Helius, a Solana infrastructure company, has acquired Light Protocol to bolster its on-chain privacy solutions. Light Protocol, established in 2021, initially focused on zero-knowledge proof privacy tools and collaborated with Helius to develop the ZK Compression data solution, launched in 2024. This framework uses zero-knowledge proofs to lower data storage costs on Solana.
Post-acquisition, Light Protocol will return to its zero-knowledge privacy roots, aiming to create a privacy protocol for private payments and DeFi on Solana. This new protocol will be programmable and configurable, catering to both retail and institutional users. Helius plans to make this privacy infrastructure available to developers in the coming months.
