Helium Mobile has announced the termination of its early access tariff plans, including the $5 and $20 monthly options, effective January 27th. The decision, attributed to government and payment partner taxes, has sparked significant dissatisfaction among users. To mitigate the impact, $5 plan users will receive a $10 account balance, and those upgrading to higher-tier plans will benefit from a 50% discount for a year and $50 in cloud credits. Additionally, users of the free plan will soon be subject to taxes.
The move has led to accusations on social media that Helium Mobile is reneging on its promise of a permanent discounted rate. In response, CEO Amir Haleem clarified that the company never guaranteed a permanent $5 plan.
