Hana Financial Group and Standard Chartered Group have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on digital asset projects, including stablecoins. The partnership aims to leverage their global networks and financial technology capabilities to explore growth opportunities in digital finance. Ham Young-joo, Chairman of Hana Financial Group, emphasized the potential for new growth avenues through this collaboration. Both institutions have been active in the digital asset sector. Hana Financial Group partnered with BitGo in 2023 to develop crypto custody services and established BitGo Korea with SK Telecom in 2024. Hana reported a record net profit of over KRW 4 trillion (USD 26.7 billion) in 2025. Standard Chartered launched Bitcoin and Ethereum spot trading for institutional clients in 2025 and offers digital asset custody services in Europe and Asia. It is also expected to be among the first to receive a stablecoin issuance license in Hong Kong.
