A grenade-type improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered and safely detonated at the J.B. Converse Reservoir dam in Mobile, Alabama. The dam, a critical infrastructure site, supplies drinking water to approximately 350,000 residents in the Mobile area. The Gulf Coast Regional Maritime Response and Render-Safe Team retrieved the device during a routine maintenance check.
The discovery prompted a coordinated response involving multiple agencies, including the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, the FBI Bomb Squad, and the Department of Homeland Security. Bud McCrory, director of the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System, praised the swift action of law enforcement and contractors in neutralizing the threat, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure security.
