Google Quantum AI has announced a significant breakthrough with its Willow quantum chip, executing a quantum algorithm 13,000 times faster than the world's leading supercomputers. The algorithm, named Quantum Echoes, measures the spread of quantum information within a system and was developed in collaboration with the University of California, Berkeley. The findings were published in the journal Nature. Despite the impressive speed, Google clarified that this advancement does not threaten Bitcoin's SHA256 hashing function, as the algorithm is designed for molecular modeling and physical simulations rather than cryptographic applications. This clarification comes amid speculation from Bitcoin enthusiasts on social media about potential impacts on Bitcoin's proof-of-work system.
