Google has announced that website publishers can now opt out of participating in its generative search features, such as AI Mode and AI Overviews, without impacting their regular search rankings. This new option allows website owners to decide if their content should be used to generate AI answers and appear in AI-related search results. The control is accessible via a toggle in the Search Console. Websites that opt out will not receive traffic from AI results but will continue to appear in traditional search results and the Discover feed. Additionally, Google will offer new generative search statistics, including data on impressions in AI answers and geographic coverage. This feature is currently being tested in the UK and will be rolled out globally.
