French authorities have dismantled a cryptocurrency fraud operation in the Var department, arresting a mother and son duo involved in a €1.5 million scam. The suspects orchestrated a "Rip Deal" scam, convincing a wealthy couple from Ramatuelle to travel to Milan under the pretense of purchasing a luxury property. They demanded a €1.5 million guarantee fee in cryptocurrency, using hidden cameras to capture the victims' crypto account details and private keys, subsequently transferring all assets.
The arrests took place in Cavalaire, where police also seized property valued at €1.9 million linked to the suspects. Both individuals, with prior fraud convictions, are scheduled to stand trial on September 1, facing charges of organized gang fraud.
