Franklin Templeton has partnered with Ondo Finance to introduce tokenized ETF products, enabling 24-hour trading via crypto wallets without the need for brokerage accounts. The offerings will initially cover U.S. equities, fixed income, and gold assets, and will be available in Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Latin America. U.S. market availability will depend on regulatory clarity.
The structure involves Ondo holding ETF shares through a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and issuing tokens, granting investors rights to income rather than the underlying assets. These tokens can be used as collateral and in DeFi applications. Franklin Templeton manages approximately $1.7 trillion in assets, while Ondo's current tokenized assets total around $2.7 billion.
