France has released Russian basketball player Daniil Kasatkin, who was accused by the United States of participating in a cryptocurrency ransomware attack. Kasatkin was previously arrested in Paris, with U.S. authorities alleging his involvement in cyberattacks demanding crypto ransoms. Although a French court approved his extradition to the U.S., the extradition order was not signed by French authorities.
According to the Russian Federal Security Service, Kasatkin returned to Russia through a prisoner exchange with France. The exchange involved Laurent Vinatier, a French citizen serving a sentence in Russia.
