Margaret Ryan, the former head of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) enforcement division, resigned on March 16th following disagreements with SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and other senior officials. Ryan reportedly clashed with the leadership over the handling of cases involving Trump, as well as crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Ryan advocated for advancing fraud and other charges in these high-profile cases but faced internal resistance. Earlier this month, the SEC settled a lawsuit against Justin Sun and his companies for $10 million, with Sun neither admitting nor denying the charges. Additionally, the SEC and Musk are reportedly negotiating a settlement. Ryan's resignation, after just six months in her role, was not publicly disclosed by the SEC.
