Backpack has appointed Dr. Michael S. Piwowar, former Acting Chairman and Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), to its Board of Directors. Piwowar, who served at the SEC from 2013 to 2018, was a key figure in early discussions on digital asset regulation. His appointment aligns with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission's approval of the first regulated bitcoin perpetual futures contract, as Backpack prepares to expand its regulated futures trading services in the U.S. market.
Mark Wetjen, former CFTC Acting Chairman and current President of Backpack US, is also involved in the DTCC Tokenization Working Group, supporting the company's strategic growth in compliance with U.S. regulations. Backpack has already established a presence in the European Union with its regulated perpetual futures trading services and is now set to launch similar offerings in the U.S.
