Sean Eric Thompson, a 44-year-old Florida resident, has been convicted of defrauding the U.S. government of $1.128 million by falsifying business losses. Thompson, who co-owned a restaurant and brewery, submitted a fraudulent application to the Restaurant Revitalization Fund during the pandemic, securing over $1 million. The U.S. Department of Justice revealed that he transferred most of these funds to his investment accounts without suffering the claimed losses.
Thompson also filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition with false information and lied under oath. He was convicted of wire fraud, bankruptcy fraud, perjury, and money laundering, and now faces up to 20 years in prison.
