Job vacancies in the finance and insurance sectors have fallen to a decade low, with the vacancy rate dropping to 1.9% in December, according to The Kobeissi Letter. This marks the lowest level since February 2012, as vacancies decreased by 117,000 to 134,000. The sector has seen a total decline of 410,000 vacancies since their peak in 2022, representing a 75% reduction.
This significant drop in job openings surpasses the largest single-month decline of 125,000 during the 2008 financial crisis. The current vacancy rate is the lowest of this century, excluding the 2009–2010 period. The financial sector continues to face challenges, with further layoffs anticipated.
