The FBI has apprehended former Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding in Mexico City, accusing him of leading a transnational drug organization that utilized cryptocurrencies for illicit transactions. Wedding, who has been on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list since 2025, faces charges including cocaine trafficking and murder. Authorities allege his network, in collaboration with the Sinaloa Cartel, transported large quantities of cocaine from Colombia to the U.S. and Canada. The U.S. Department of the Treasury previously highlighted the organization's use of multiple blockchains, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, for money laundering. In 2024, OFAC sanctioned Wedding and related entities, freezing several cryptocurrency addresses. Wedding is also charged with orchestrating the murder of an informant and planning violent retaliations linked to drug trafficking.
