The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have issued a joint security alert regarding cyberattacks by hackers linked to Russian intelligence agencies. These hackers are targeting users of encrypted communication apps like Signal and WhatsApp, focusing on high-value targets such as U.S. government officials, military personnel, politicians, and journalists. The report highlights that the attackers are employing phishing tactics by impersonating security personnel to trick users into revealing verification codes, thereby gaining access to their accounts. Thousands of accounts have reportedly been compromised in these attacks.
