Dan Romero, co-founder of Farcaster, has clarified five common misconceptions about the Multipurpose Payment Protocol (MPP) and submitted it as a web standard proposal to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Romero emphasized that MPP is not exclusive to Tempo and is compatible with both cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies across any blockchain. The protocol has been integrated with the Bitcoin Lightning Network, and a draft for Solana is available. Romero highlighted that MPP incurs no inherent fees, with costs varying based on the blockchain or fiat channel used. Designed for simplicity and scalability, MPP supports both pay-per-request and session-based modes, the latter being suitable for continuous micropayments. Additionally, MPP separates secure HTTP communication from payment channels, independent of specific smart wallet implementations or stablecoins.
