Fantasy.top, an on-chain transaction card platform, has announced its closure after over two years of operation. Co-founder Kipit cited the fundamental incompatibility between cryptocurrency and the collectible card game (TCG) model as the primary reason for the shutdown. Kipit explained that while traditional TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon thrive on game quality and fan loyalty, crypto TCGs focus on financial value, attracting investors rather than gamers.
Kipit criticized the prevalent practice of issuing native tokens before achieving product-market fit, arguing it shifts focus from product development to managing user sentiment. Despite facing accusations of refusing refunds, Fantasy.top assured that all seed investors will receive full reimbursement, as the company was self-funded through product revenue. The platform, once a top DeFi protocol, raised $4.25 million and was built on Blast Layer 2, allowing users to trade hero cards of crypto influencers.
