Former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Deputy Michael David Coberg has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for aiding cryptocurrency fraudsters in extortion schemes. Coberg was also ordered to pay $127,000 in restitution for his role in assisting scammer Adam Iza in extorting victims through false arrests and threats.
Coberg, who acted as Iza's business partner and consultant, earned at least $20,000 monthly. In October 2021, he participated in an extortion incident where a victim was coerced into transferring $127,000 to Iza's account under threat. Coberg also conspired with Iza to lure another victim from Miami to Los Angeles, where they conducted a fabricated arrest. Coberg pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in September 2025, while Iza remains in custody awaiting sentencing.
