European authorities have dismantled the cryptocurrency mixing service Cryptomixer, which laundered over $1.4 billion through Bitcoin since 2016. In a coordinated operation in Switzerland, law enforcement seized over $27 million worth of Bitcoin and 12 TB of data. Supported by Europol and the European Judiciary, German and Swiss agencies conducted the raid in Zurich, confiscating three servers and the cryptomixer.io domain.
Cryptomixer, operating on both the surface and dark web, provided money laundering services for ransomware groups, underground forums, and dark web markets. The service facilitated the laundering of illicit proceeds from drug trafficking, arms sales, ransomware attacks, and payment card fraud by obstructing blockchain fund tracing. Following the operation, a seizure banner was placed on the Cryptomixer website, marking its shutdown.
