Thirteen European cloud providers, including OVHcloud and Nextcloud, have endorsed the European Commission's push for technological sovereignty. In an open letter, they advocate for prioritizing European providers in public tenders, especially for sensitive sectors like defense and healthcare. This move aims to reduce reliance on US cloud giants, which dominate 65-70% of the EU market. The letter emphasizes Europe's need to independently manage its digital infrastructure, amid tensions with US laws like the CLOUD Act. The European Commission is expected to announce new procurement rules and funding mechanisms by early June 2026, potentially favoring EU-based cloud and semiconductor firms.
