The European Union has issued 244 MiCA licenses to crypto firms as of June 29, with Germany and France accounting for over one-third of these. Germany leads with 57 licenses (approximately 23%), followed by France with 26 (about 11%). Notably, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, and Romania have yet to issue any MiCA licenses. Poland, in particular, lacks a regulatory framework for crypto exchanges, with related legislation being vetoed by the president three times.
The concentration of MiCA licenses in Germany, France, and the Netherlands, along with Luxembourg and Ireland, reflects these countries' dominance in EU financial assets, holding about 72% collectively. France has accelerated its licensing process, issuing five licenses between June 18 and 22, nearly half of the EU's total of 11 during that period. MiCA mandates that crypto companies must secure a license in at least one EU country by July 1 to legally operate across the 27-member bloc.
