Etherscan has reported a dramatic 612% increase in address poisoning attempts following Ethereum's Fusaka upgrade on December 3, 2025. The upgrade, which significantly reduced transaction costs, has led to a surge in dust transfers. Between 2022 and 2024, Ethereum experienced approximately 17 million poisoning attempts, impacting 1.3 million users and resulting in confirmed losses of at least $79.3 million.
In response to the increased threat, Etherscan advises users to manually verify full destination addresses before transferring funds, add private name tags to frequently used addresses, use ENS domains, and enable the Etherscan Address Highlight feature. Users are also encouraged to pay attention to pop-up notifications when copying addresses to prevent potential losses.
